The Asiago Plateau rises from the Venetian foothills like a fortress of grass and stone, and this 195-kilometre loop explores its every mood over four days of committed gravel riding. With 4,600 metres of elevation gain threaded across the Altopiano, the route alternates between demanding climbs through dense pine forest and long, open ridgelines where the horizon stretches toward the Dolomites and the Po Valley shimmers far below. This is bikepacking at its most atmospheric — remote enough to feel genuinely earned, yet rooted in a landscape layered with history, grazing traditions, and the particular silence that settles over high plateau country after the day-trippers have gone home.

  1. 1

    Asiago loop - giorno 1

Nearly 1900 metres of climbing packed into 66 kilometres means the legs are tested from the start, with long ramps out of Bassano del Grappa dragging riders up through terraced vineyards and tightening forest as the valley floor falls away. The gradient rarely relents, the air cooling degree by degree as the plateau draws closer, all limestone karst and open pasture swept by a wind that carries no warmth. By the time Gallio appears, the effort feels earned — a slow-burn day that trades speed for altitude, exchanging the Veneto plain for the austere, wide-sky world of the Asiago upland.

  2. 2

    Asiago loop - giorno 2

Gravel tracks and forest doubletrack set the tone early, pulling riders through the quieter, wilder reaches of the Asiago plateau before the climbing begins in earnest. The day's 1,400 metres of elevation gain accumulates in waves, lungs working hard against long graded ascents that open without warning onto wind-scoured meadows and broad pastoral views. The effort is honest and sustained, but the landscape rewards it — rolling highland terrain stitched with spruce and beech, the air carrying that particular stillness found well above the valley noise. The finish drops into Asiago with a sense of arrival well earned.

  3. 3

    Asiago loop - giorno 3

The plateau opens wide under a sky that seems closer here than anywhere else, the grass cropped short by wind and grazing animals, the horizon uncluttered and vast. From Asiago the route rolls through a landscape that carries the quiet weight of the First World War, where the land itself still feels held in memory. The climbing is measured but persistent, legs finding a rhythm across highland terrain that alternates between forested shade and open meadow. By the time Roana appears, the body is pleasantly spent, and the afternoon light lies long and golden across the Altopiano.

  4. 4

    Asiago loop - giorno 4

The final morning breaks cool and clear above Roana, the plateau releasing its last breath of pine-scented air before the route tips decisively downward. What began four days ago as a slow grind into the highlands now unravels in long, satisfying descents, gravity doing the work the legs have earned. The landscape softens as altitude drops, vineyards and terracotta rooftops replacing alpine meadows, the Veneto plain spreading wide and warm ahead. Bassano del Grappa arrives almost as a surprise — the loop quietly, completely closed.
