A five-day bike journey from south to north across Corsica offers a perfect mix of landscapes and sensations. Crystal-clear seas line the coast, while the island’s interior surprises with steep, rugged mountains that feel far higher than expected. Along the way, refreshing swims in cool rivers provide the ideal break from the ride, making the trip both challenging and deeply rewarding.

  1. 1

    Porto-vecchio - Bonifazziu - Pinarellu

The salt air of Porto-Vecchio's gulf lingers on the skin as the route pulls away from the coast and begins its quiet insistence inland. Cork oaks and maquis press close on either side, releasing a resinous, sun-warmed scent that thickens through the morning heat. The climbing is measured rather than brutal, the legs finding a rhythm through folded terrain of russet scrubland and pale granite. By the time Zonza appears, the day has already felt like an initiation — 82 kilometres that trade the sea for the mountains without hurry.

  2. 2

    U Pinarellu - Corte

Day 2 carries riders out of the granite stronghold of Zonza and northward through the island's mountainous spine, where the road climbs in long, patient arcs before surrendering to descents that demand full attention. At 108 kilometres with over 1,600 metres of gain, it is a day of sustained effort rather than single brutal ramps — the kind of riding that quietly empties the legs. The landscape shifts from chestnut shade to open maquis, the air sharp with wild herbs, before Corte's citadel finally appears perched above its valley like a reward earned in full.

  3. 3

    Corte - Porto

Day three pivots west from the island's interior heartland toward its wilder Atlantic edge, a shift felt as much in the air as in the legs. From Corte the route unspools through a landscape of increasing drama — deep maquis, granite walls catching the morning light, and valleys that seem to swallow sound whole. At 87 kilometres with nearly 1,500 metres of climbing, the effort is sustained rather than savage, a long conversation between rider and gradient. By the time Ota appears, cradled in its gorge, the day has the quality of a slow revelation.

  4. 4

    Porto - Calvi

The morning air carries salt and maquis long before the sea comes into view, a reminder that the coast is pulling you forward. From Ota the route unwinds through rugged inland terrain before gradually softening toward the northwest, the road trading drama for a quieter, more expansive rhythm. At 79 kilometres with modest climbing, the legs find a sustainable pace, but the Corsican landscape refuses to let attention wander — dry scrub, pale rock, and sudden glimpses of turquoise water conspire to hold the gaze. Calvi arrives like a reward, its citadel rising above the bay in the late afternoon haze.

  5. 5

    Calvi - Bastia

The final morning breaks over the northern cape with a salt-edged clarity, the air cool and bright after days of mountain effort. The road rolls and surges across a rugged coastal hinterland, never quite settling, demanding one last reckoning with Corsican terrain — short punchy climbs that burn the legs, fast descents that reward the brave. Nearly 1,500 metres of elevation ensure there is no easy farewell, the maquis-scented scrubland giving way to glimpses of the Tyrrhenian before Bastia's rooftops finally appear below.
